06:07 pm - Anymore Otapyon stuff out/coming out?
Hello,

I'm a big fan of Otapyon's works (Mmm smutty PxE goodness). Wondering if anyone can help?

1) I was wondering if anyone knows if they're planning any upcoming GS doujinshis?

2) And, are there any published that I have missed? I went to their website, but I can't read japanese...

So far, all I know of are:
Address
Because I
Deep Level 1-4
Drink
Echo (raw)
Kaseki no Mori
Nectar
Ring
Shizuku
Stance

3) Also, has Echo been scanlated? That's the only one I have that's still raw.

Thanks for any info!!

Okay, so I'm now officially a squeeing fangirl of this series (it didn't take much!)

This episode made me laugh out loud so many times.

P.S. Does every episode have a naked Arthur near the start? :P

10:57 am - Energy Reserves Low
I'm worn out. This week, I've been on-call, I've been working on our company's disaster readiness test, which has taken many hours out of the week, I've been dealing with production problems and helping other team members with the problems they're seeing. And on top of it all, yesterday evening Steph twisted her ankle, which has caused her a lot of pain.

Now, gaming news.

This is kind of cool: The state of New York is working with Microsoft and Nintendo to send out weather emergency warnings on their gaming networks. I'm guessing that would take the form of messages to New Yorkers accounts.

Our new games for the month are New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Left 4 Dead 2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is very much like New Super Mario Bros. (for the DS)... EXCEPT!

First, Mario Wii--and I'm not going to spell out the entire freaking name ever again, because "Super Mario Bros." is a mouthful in and of itself, much less with a "New" in front and a "Wii" at the end--allows for up to four-player simultaneous play. I say ALLOWS, not requires. You can play the entire game one-player, and there is one side-quest that you can only do one-player, but at any time you can bring in one, two, or three other people and play through the entire game that way too.

Some parts get harder with two players, because you can't move through each other and you can absolutely bounce off each other's heads and accidentally throw koopa shells in each others' directions. (hee hee, 'accidentally')

Some parts get easier, because as long as one person is still alive, you don't get kicked back to the beginning of the level, and the other folks will float back into the stage in a bubble (minus a life) after a few seconds.

But if you think back twenty five years, when Super Mario Bros. was released and people took turns playing as Mario or Luigi, what was one thing that was in the back of their minds? "I wish I didn't have to wait my turn. Why can't we both play together?" It works out great.

The other difference between the NSMB and NSMBW? The Wii version is tougher. They give you tons of lives, but you need them too.

As for Left 4 Dead 2, we've so far only played the demo. We have the XBox version of L4D, but we picked up the PC version for L4D2 (since Valve is able to put out so much more content through their own delivery service than through Microsoft Live).

Speaking of Valve, a few months ago I'd finally fallen out of the habit of playing Team Fortress 2--but Steph mentioned missing playing it a few days ago, so probably we'll start playing again. Maybe.

Valve is an interesting company. They treat game development as an iterative process. In Team Fortress, that shines through, because they are constantly tweaking, adding stuff, and improving the game. In Left 4 Dead, it's raised some hackles, because there was exactly one year between releasing the game and releasing the full-priced sequel.

I happen to think iterative improvement is a nifty idea for games. How many times have I said "This game would be better if only it did or didn't do X"? And a lot of the truly creative games start off as little more than proof of concept. Katamari Damashi and Smash Brothers are both games where the originals were clever and a lot of fun--but then the sequels came out, and they were so much better. They were polished, tested, and had a lot of ideas that were left on the chopping block the first time.

Of course, the other extreme includes series like Mario Party and sports games, where it can be hard to tell what exactly was IMPROVED between version numbers.
